President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte, who resigned on July 7, discussed the start of F-16 training for pilots of the Ukrainian Air Force, the Ukrainian leader wrote on Twitter.

"Defense cooperation was discussed, the dates for starting the training mission for Ukrainian F-16 pilots were set," the President said.

Zelenskyy and Rutte also reaffirmed their common position on Kyiv's path toward the European Union and NATO ahead of the Alliance summit in Vilnius.

Ukraine has long been asking Western countries to create a coalition of nations ready to send modern fighter aircraft. Eight European countries have already joined the "fighter jet coalition" for Ukraine: The United Kingdom, Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, Portugal, France, and the Netherlands.

Amsterdam was one of the first to support the idea to start training Ukrainian Air Force pilots on F-16s.

Later, Romania initiated opening a center for training of Ukrainian pilots. On June 6, Prague announced it would donate attack helicopters, largecaliber ammunition, and is ready to help train pilots for F-16s.
