Ukraine’s parliament appoints Malyuk as SBU chief

Earlier, on Feb. 6, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy submitted the relevant motion to the Verkhovna Rada, where it was approved in committee.
Malyuk has served as the SBU acting head since SBU chief Ivan Bakanov was suspended from his duties on July 17, 2022.

On July 18, Zelenskyy tapped Malyuk as the SBU acting head and submitted a motion on Bakanov’s dismissal to the parliament.
After large-scale searches at the offices of former Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, former PrivatBank owner Ihor Kolomoisky, pro-Russian MP Vadym Stolar, and representatives of the State Tax Service, Malyuk said the goal of the SBU was to “fight internal enemies.”

According to Malyuk, this is only the first stage of “complex and systematic work,” and the SBU has no plans to stop.
