“It is interesting that today in the Russian information space, especially on the Internet, as well as among some of the opposition, the idea is being propagated that only the ‘Putin clique’ should be blamed for this invasion,” Budanov told Wirtualna Polska.

“And society has nothing to do with it. And we are also at war with a country where more than two-thirds of the population supported Putin's actions!”

According to Ukraine’s spy chief, it is unknown what the future of Russia will be like, how many elements it will break up into, and with whom Kyiv will have to talk about reparations and prosecution of those responsible for crimes.

"Our task, the task of Ukraine, is to weaken the Russian Federation systematically and state-wide,” Budanov said.

“To do this, we must actively join the Euro-Atlantic and European structures: political, economic, security, legal, humanitarian and educational.”

He also added that Ukraine should forget about the post-Soviet period "as if it were a bad dream."

"Finally, we must have some form of control over the new post-war Russian Federation," Budanov said.

“So that (we can ensure) what happened to Ukraine never happens again.”
