Ukraine wants an apology and a rebuttal of any claims on Ukrainian territory from Hungary

The map contains territories that are recognized to be part of Ukraine.

"The promotion of revisionism ideas in Hungary does not contribute to the development of Ukrainian-Hungarian relations," Nikolenko wrote on Facebook.

"The Hungarian ambassador will be summoned to the Minister of Foreign Affairs to protest against Orban's unacceptable deed."

The scarf has raised hackles throughout Europe, as well – for example, a Romanian Member of the European Parliament, Alin Mituța, called on the European Council to sanction and isolate Viktor Orban.

"Another irresponsible act of Viktor Orban, who appeared today with a scarf with the map of Greater Hungary,” Mituța said on Twitter.

“It's a revisionist gesture that puts Orban alongside Putin, who also dreams of border changes. He should be sanctioned and isolated by EU leaders in the European Council.”

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic also expressed his disapproval with Orban’s scarf.
