Ukraine's Defence Intelligence posts video of attack on Russian boats in Chornomorske, Crimea

Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence (DIU) has officially confirmed that a special operation in Russian-occupied Crimea overnight led to the destruction of Serna-class landing craft carrying crew and armoured vehicles and has posted a video.

Quote from DIU: "The [Ukrainian] soldiers struck Russian Black Sea Fleet small landing craft during a night operation on the territory of temporarily occupied Crimea. These are Project 11770 boats (Serna class). The crew and armoured vehicles, including BTR-82s [armoured personnel carriers], were on board."

Details: Ukrainian intelligence provided official confirmation after Suspilne, a Ukrainian public broadcaster, and Fakty, a daily news and analysis programme, reported that two Russian boats had been hit near the village of Chornomorske, citing their sources in DIU.

The intelligence service added that the special operation succeeded thanks to the support from the United24 government initiative.

The intelligence noted that the Russians actively used small Serna-class landing boats during the occupation of Zmiinyi (Snake) Island to move military equipment and troops. In addition, they deployed Tor-M2 anti-aircraft missile systems on board the vessels to provide mobile cover for their group on the island and in the Ukrainian part of the Black Sea.

The Serna-class small landing craft has a high speed and is capable of carrying up to 45 tonnes of cargo and 92 armed landing personnel.

The Russians employ these boats to land forward marine groups or evacuate them. Besides, such vessels with anti-aircraft systems on board served as cover for the Russian Black Sea Fleet warships when they had no shipboard air defence systems left after a series of attacks by the Ukrainian Security and Defence Forces, as noted by DIU.
