Ukraines Ministry of Defence reveals mythical creature destroying Russian military bases

OLENA BARSUKOVA – SUNDAY, 28 AUGUST 2022

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has shared an image of a fictitious mythical creature, Bavovniatko, which it claims is responsible for the explosions at Russian military bases on the occupied territories of Ukraine. [The root of Bavovniatko is bavovna, which refers to how Russian propaganda, initially refusing to use the word (explosion), used (a clap) instead. However, also means cotton, which has since become a meme - ed.].

"It is fluffy and restless. At night, Bavovniatko quietly sneaks into the occupiers’ bases, storage points, air fields, oil refineries and other places filled with flammable goods, and begins to play with fire," the Ministry of Defence wrote on Twitter.

The fluffy creature is meant to symbolise bavovna, or cotton, which has become synonymous with explosions at strategic Russian targets, which Russian propaganda consistently explains away by claiming someone was smoking or playing with fire at those facilities.

Svitlana Olevska is the artist responsible for the visualisation of Bavovniatko, which has been shared on the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Operational Command Pivden (South) Facebook pages.
