Ukraine needs more air defense to protect Western regions as Russian drone tactics remain unchanged Regarding Russia’s use of Shahed kamikaze drones, Russia’s tactics remain unchanged, Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson Yuriy Ihnat said on national television on Nov. 17.

"The Shaheds are launched from the southeast and fly in different directions - very often towards Khmelnytskyi Oblast. We understand that there are some objects of interest for the enemy there, but our air defense will eventually cope with them," he said, adding that nine out of ten drones were shot down in the latest overnight attack, with the tenth failing to reach its target.

More air-defense systems are needed to intercept drones en route to Western Ukraine.

Nine out of ten Russian kamikaze drones were shot down over Mykolaiv, Odesa, Zhytomyr, and Khmelnytskyi Oblasts in the overnight attack early on Nov. 17.
