Ukrainian football player Ivan Petriak, a midfielder for the Hungarian side Fehervar, scored a goal in a qualifying match for the 2022 Europa Conference League.

The match was played against the Moldovan side Petrocub. The 28-year-old scored the 4th goal for his team.

After the goal, Petriak took off his jersey, revealing a T-shirt underneath with a photo of his father-in-law Ivan Petrenko, who died defending Ukraine from Russian forces.

Previously, Ivan Petriak had spoken about the death of his wife's father on Instagram.

48-year-old Ivan Petrenko fought in the area of Avdiivka. On 12 May the connection with him was lost.

"Papa Vania (father), I won't whine about it, they won't give you a hero [of Ukraine medal - ed.], but for our family, you are a legend, a legend of patriotism…

We won't cry, because you've always said that whining is for weaklings. That we are fighters from birth and will fight to the end. Thank you for our restful sleep! Rest in peace, dear," the footballer wrote on his Instagram.

Earlier, after an FC Dynamo game, Turkish fans chanted the name of Vladimir Putin who initiated the war against Ukraine. The coach of the Ukrainian team reacted to this with a protest.
