Ukrainian forces establish powerful fortifications amid Russian offensive

Russian forces are pulling up their reserves on the Kharkiv front, where their main goal is to capture Kupyansk, while Ukrainian Defence Forces are capturing powerful fortifications, Ilya Yevlash, spokesperson for the Khortytsia operational-strategic group, said on national televisionon Feb. 26.

According to him, the situation in the Kupyansk sector is quite complicated. The Russians are deploying a lot of equipment and personnel, sparing no expense, and promptly replenishing units.

Additionally, the enemy is currently reinforcing the border line, pulling up the reserves of the Russian Guard to play it safe and prevent a breakthrough.

The defense forces, in turn, are actively using FPV drones, destroying up to 60% of the enemy’s equipment during the offensive, the spokesman said.

“We have established powerful fortifications, including a defense line on the Lyman-Kupyansk front near Kupyansk, concrete pillboxes, and numerous engineering structures.”

In the late summer of 2023, the Russian army intensified its offensive in the Kupyansk sector, which is being held back by the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

As of early February, about 40,000 Russian troops, more than 500 tanks and 650 armored combat vehicles were concentrated in the Kupyansk direction, the Armed Forces reported.

On Feb. 3, Forbes magazine wrote that the aggressor country’s troops plan to capture Kupyanskby March 2024, when the presidential election will be held in Russia.

In response, the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Synehubov, said that the occupiers had not abandoned their intentions to recapture these territories since their liberation.
