Ukrainian forces lose 40-45 reconnaissance drones every day

Ukrainian troops on the battlefield lose an average of 40-45 reconnaissance UAVs daily, of both domestically-produced and imported varieties, Yuriy Shchyhol, head of Ukraine's State Special Communications Service, told Ukrainian TV broadcasters on Aug. 29.

“Speaking of reconnaissance drones, on average, our security and defense forces lose 40-45 drones a day,” said Shchyhol.

“This includes the simplest Mavic, Matrice [commercially available civilian drones], and large professional drones of both Ukrainian and foreign manufacture.”

According to his data, more than 22,000 combat drones have been purchased, with roughly 15,000 already delivered to the Ukrainian military.

The official noted that of the UAH 40 billion ($1.08 billion) allocated by the government for UAV procurement, 63% has already been spent.

Since February 2022, the Defense Ministry has adopted 28 models of different types of domestically manufactured UAVs. As of late July 2023, thousands of drones from the ministry’s procurement department have been handed over to the military.
