Ukraine’s 24th King Danylo Separate Mechanized Brigade has successfully liberated part of Horlivka, Donetsk Oblast, held by the enemy since 2014, according to President Volodomyr Zelenskyy.

“Now, our flag proudly waves over the [free] territory. Horlivka is Ukraine! Donbas is Ukraine!” Zelenskyy said.

Reports that the occupiers were preparing to retreat towards the Horlivka-Bakhmut highway have surfaced since October.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces had reported pushing Russians out of dominant heights on the Horlivka front in August.

Citing anonymous sources, Time magazine reported in early October that the Ukrainian authorities had demanded the liberation of Horlivka, but the military responded that its resources were insufficient.

As of Dec. 12, Russians are launching offensives on various fronts, including Avdiivka and Maryinka directions, while Ukrainian Armed Forces are holding their positions in Kupyansk, Bakhmut, and Lyman directions.
