Ukrainian Forces Recapture Town North of Sloviansk, Donetsk Oblast, Officials Say

The town of Bohorodychne, Donetsk Oblast, was recaptured on September 12, officials said, as a successful counteroffensive in the east saw Ukrainian forces take control of towns and villages occupied by Russia.

Footage released by the Donetsk Regional State Administration shows damaged buildings, including churches, throughout the town of Bohorodychne. It said the only two local residents who remained in Bogorodychne during its occupation by Russian forces welcomed the Ukrainian troops.

The Airborne Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said on Monday that state flags had been raised in Kamianets, Bohorodychne, Izyum, Oskol and other settlements.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said 6,000 square km of Ukrainian territory in the east and south had been liberated since the beginning of September. Credit: Donetsk Regional State Administration via Storyful
