Ukrainian forces repel nearly 40 attacks on Avdiivka front and 24 on Mariupol front in a day, says General Staff

Russian troops intensified attacks in the past day on three fronts – Avdiivka, Mariupol, and Lyman — resulting in a total of 105 collisions along the frontlines, Ukrainian General Staff reported on Facebook on Feb. 5.

Russian forces conducted numerous attacks, including seven missile strikes, 25 aerial assaults, and 52 artillery barrages. In response, Ukrainian defending forces targeted Russian troop positions, striking two command posts and two ammunition depots.

The situation remains tense in the east and south, Ukrainian General Staff said.

Ukrainian defensive forces repelled eight attacks near Synkivka in Kharkiv Oblast on the Kupiansk front.

·         15 assaults were thwarted near Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, as well as in Yampilivka, Terniv, Torske, and Hryhorivka in Donetsk Oblast on the Lyman front

·         Ukrainian troops repelled eight attacks near Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, and Klishchyivka in Donetsk Oblast on the Bakhmut front

·         24 assaults were repelled near Novobakhmutivka and Avdiivka, along with 14 attacks near Pervomaiske and Nevelske in Donetsk Oblast on the Avdiivka front

·         Ukrainian defensive forces continue to hold back Russian troops near Hеorhiivka and Novomykhailivka in Donetsk Oblast on the Mariupol front, where they made 24 unsuccessful attempts to improve their tactical position

·         Ukrainian forces repelled two attacks near Robotyne on the Zaporizhzhya front

·         Russian military made two unsuccessful attempts to storm Ukrainian positions on the Dnipro River’s left bank.

On Feb. 4, journalist Yuriy Butusov reported that Russian occupiers have advanced into the development zone of Avdiivka, with street fighting ongoing in the city. According to him, Russian units have entrenched themselves on one of the streets on the northern outskirts of the city.

Meanwhile, journalist Andriy Tsaplienko announced that Russian stormtroopers, taking advantage of cloudy weather and the inability for quality aerial reconnaissance, entered Avdiivka from the northeast.

On Febr. 5, the U.S.-based think tank Institute for the Study of War (ISW) confirmed that Russian forces have further advanced near Avdiivka, Maryinka, and Bakhmut amidst heavy positional battles in these areas.
