Ukrainian forces strike rare Russian artillery and anti-air units on Tavria front

Ukrainian forces struck a “quite rare” Russian self-propelled artillery unit 2S34 Khosta and the Tor anti-aircraft missile system on the Tavria front, Tavria operational group commander, Brig. Gen. Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, reported on Telegram on Jan. 14.

The 2S34 Khosta is a Russian 120-mm self-propelled artillery unit, a significant upgrade of the 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer. It is utilized to suppress enemy forces, artillery and mortar batteries, missile systems, armored targets, fire assets, and control points at distances up to 14 kilometers.

The capture of the first Russian Khosta was reported in March 2022.

Tarnavskyi reported ongoing Russian airstrikes, including 34 on the previous day, and dropping guided bombs, with a focus on Donetsk Oblast.

Invading Russian forces also employed Ka-52 helicopters and Su-25 attack aircraft for multiple strikes.

According to the general, the Russian army is concentrating efforts in the areas of Avdiivka and Novomykhailivka, engaging in 43 combat clashes and carrying out 914 artillery shelling incidents.

According to the Ukrainian military’s General Staff, Russia lost an additional 840 military personnel and dozens of pieces of equipment in the last 24 hours.
