Russian troops attempted to advance in the Zaporizhzhya Oblast overnight but Ukraine’s Armed Forces thwarted the attack, the Ukrainian Ground Forces reported on Telegram on Feb. 19.

The Russians aimed to storm Ukrainian positions, but "all enemy actions were unsuccessful," the report said, sharing a video.

"Equipment was destroyed and enemy soldiers were finished off,” they said.

Russian troops made repeated attempts to attack Ukrainian positions near Robotyne, Zaporizhzhya Oblast, over the past day, but all attacks were unsuccessful, the General Staff reported on Facebook.

On Feb. 17, Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had withdrawn from Avdiivka, Donetsk Oblast. He said that the decision was made to avoid encirclement and to save the lives and health of the soldiers.

Russian troops have intensified their offensive on Avdiivka since October 2023.

The commander of the Tavria Operational-Strategic Group, Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, said that several Ukrainian soldiers were taken prisoner during the withdrawal from Avdiivka.

Dmytro Lykhoviy, spokesperson for the Tavria operational group, said that Ukraine’s troop withdrawal from Avdiivka was as successful as the circumstances allowed.
