The plant will produce about 3 million cubic meters of gas per year – enough to meet the demand of about 1,500 customers, both households and industry.

Work on connecting the plant was resumed immediately after the liberation of Chernihiv Oblast from Russian occupation in April last year.

The whole connection process, from the issuance of specifications to the completion of construction, took less than six months. The enterprise has been equipped with a gas metering unit and gas regulation equipment, including technological solutions from Emerson, Pietro Fiorentini, FMG, and Sick.

“RGC acted as an investment nanny (a project to help large businesses) in this project: we consulted, developed project and technical documentation for connection, technical conditions and performed network connection work,” said RGC CEO Oleksii Tiutiunnyk.

“We can scale this experience in any region of Ukraine. After all, Ukraine has a huge potential for biomethane production on a par with the European Union, where more than 1,200 plants with a capacity of 3.5 billion cubic meters per year are operating.”

As noted, the biomethane produced by the enterprise is no different from natural gas and can be immediately consumed by households and industry.

At the first stage, gas will be supplied to the network in the autumn-winter period. After the construction of the second stage and the interconnection of networks, the supply will become year-round.

The company initiated and financed the development of a state standard for pumping biomethane into gas distribution networks, based on the European standard.

The RGC has also developed a universal template of technical conditions for connecting biomethane at a discounted price of UAH 1 and created a “single window” in a one-stop-shop format for biomethane producers and potential investors.

In 2022, RGC and STX, a European trader of the biomethane market (15% of the European market), signed a memorandum for the purchase of biomethane from Ukraine.
