Ukrainian parliament to consider exemptions from ban on publishing Russian authors
The Ukrainian parliamentary Committee for Humanitarian and Informational Policy has proposed amending existing legislation to permit Ukrainian publishers to print books by Russian authors who openly condemn Moscow’s war against Ukraine, news outlet Detector Media reported on Aug. 16, citing committee chair Mykyta Poturaiev.

Poturaiev said that Ukrainian publishing house Clio requested the change. The company is preparing to print a book about Ivan Bohun (a prominent figure in the history of the Zaporizhian Sich) by Russian historian Tatiana Tairova-Yakovleva, an expert on 16th-18th century history of Ukraine.
On June 22, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law banning imports of books from Russia and Belarus to Ukraine. The bill was designed in response to a public petition registered on May 16. Within two weeks, it gathered the required 25,000 signatures to be considered by authorities.
