Ukrainian refugees arrive to cold weather in Poland

STORY: After waiting in long lines at the border, refugees are met in Poland by volunteers handing out hot food. Some try to connect with friends or relatives while others plan the next step of their journey.

Polish border authorities said almost 327,000 people have entered the country since Feb. 24 when the Russian invasion of Ukraine began.

EU officials have said the war could displace 7 million people.

Russia says it is conducting a "special operation" in Ukraine that it says is not designed to occupy territory but to destroy its southern neighbor's military capabilities and capture what it regards as dangerous nationalists.
