Ukrainians attacked 2.5 times more often than any other nationality in Berlin
A total of 3,250 crimes against Ukrainians have been recorded in Berlin since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine to March 2023. These were mostly cases of bodily harm (575), threats (187), and insults (86). Twenty-three investigations led to court cases.
Police have identified suspects in about 1,200 of the cases.
The AUO noted that law enforcement officials did not provide data on whether such attacks were politically motivated, though police should have this information.

"We don’t know, but we have reason to believe that these are hate crimes," the organization said.
Most of the incidents were registered in the districts of Mitte (640) and Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf (484), German newspaper Tagespiegel reports.
Green Party and Berlin parliament member Catrin Wahlen requested the information from the Berlin House of Representatives at the request of the AUO.
“The Alliance of Ukrainian Organizations will continue to put pressure on political institutions in Berlin and Germany to ensure greater security for people from Ukraine, to investigate these cases and to prevent them in the future,” the AUO said in its post on Facebook.
