UL Lafayette, SLCC named to best colleges lists
The University of Louisiana at Lafayette and South Louisiana Community College both received accolades Wednesday, as both were named among the top institutions in their class nationwide.
UL Lafayette was included in The Princeton Review’s list of 389 “Best Colleges for 2024” for undergraduate education. The list features about 15% of the country’s four-year colleges and universities, and only five Louisiana schools were included in the list.
Loyola University New Orleans, Tulane University, Xavier University of Louisiana and LSU also were included on the list.
The annual guide from The Princeton Review is released to help prospective students make decisions for their undergraduate studies. This year’s list was based on survey results from more than 165,000 students covering areas such as academics, financial aid, amenities, career services and campus culture.
South Louisiana Community College was named the best community college in Louisiana by BestColleges.com, an online resource for students looking at higher education options.
“South Louisiana Community College is deeply honored to be recognized as the top community college in Louisiana by BestColleges.com,” said SLCC Chancellor Vincent June in a release. “This acknowledgment is a testament to our commitment to preparing students for success in high-demand fields and empowering individuals to achieve their educational and career goals. From our affordability and campus locations close to our students’ homes to SLCC’s focus on providing support that students need to succeed, our college is proud of this top recognition.”
The list specifically cited SLCC’s certificate programs in high-needs fields such as aviation maintenance technology, medical laboratory science and culinary arts and operations.
The BestColleges rankings are based on areas such as academic quality, affordability and online competency.
