Your ultimate guide to Aftershock 2023 in Sacramento: Schedule, tickets, banned items

Aftershock returns to Sacramento’s Discovery Park this weekend, kicking off the four-day outdoor music festival on Thursday.

The lineup is topped with big names in heavy metal and hard rock, including headliners Guns N’ Roses, Tool, Avenged Sevenfold and Korn.

Whether you have your wristbands ready or you’re still debating if you’ll go, here’s what to know:

When is Aftershock 2023?

Aftershock runs from Thursday to Sunday.

Gates are open from around 11 a.m. to noon, but this can change, according to the event website.

Where is the festival?

It’s at Discovery Park, 1000 Garden Highway, between downtown Sacramento and South Natomas.

Parking isn’t available at the park for the festival. Attendees are advised to use the Park & Ride Shuttle Program where they can park their cars at Cal Expo, 1600 Exposition Blvd, and take a shuttle to and from the park.

You have to pay to park with this program. Parking permits for individual days start at $35 before fees. For all four days, it’s $120 before fees.

Other options to get to Discovery Park include using Sacramento Regional Transit buses, rideshare apps and biking. There will be a bike valet near the entrance on Jibboom Street.

Are there still tickets?

The festival, open to all ages, still has passes on sale online.

General admission for all four days starts at $429.99 with added fees of $86.39.

Single-day tickets are also available, except for Friday. Thursday and Sunday tickets start at $154.99 before fees, and Saturday tickets start at $164.99.

The rules for Discovery Park

Similar to other venues and festivals, there are rules, including what you can and cannot bring to Discovery Park.

You can’t bring certain bags, for example. Oversized tote bags, diaper bags, hydration packs, large backpacks, big purses and cooler bags are not allowed.

You can, however, bring the following:

  • Clear backpacks that are 12”x6”x12”

  • Clear drawstring backs that are 16”x13”

  • 1 gallon plastic storage bags

  • Clear tote bags that are 12”x6”x12”

  • Solid color or clear fanny packs that are 7.5”x4.1”x2.6”

  • Small bags and purses sized 4.5”x6.5”

Other prohibited items include outside food and drinks, strollers, laptops, video cameras, drones and metal containers such as water bottles.

Don’t bring chairs, balloons, totems, whistles, air horns, pets, chains or walkie-talkies either.

But bring your credit or debit cards, because the festival is cashless.
