Netflix has explained the reason why Nick Lachey and Vanessa Lachey weren't invited to host its new LGBTQ+ dating show The Ultimatum: Queer Love.

The show follows the same format as its predecessor The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On, featuring couples where one is ready for marriage and the other is having doubts. The difference with the Queer Love season being that these couples are exclusively women and non-binary people.

This wasn't the only change though, as staple Netflix dating show hosts Nick and Vanessa didn't helm the series, with the job instead going to Sweet Magnolias star JoAnna Garcia Swisher.

Now, Kinetic Content boss and executive producer Chris Coelen has explained the reason why, telling Variety the streamer thought it would be a "good idea" to have a new host for the show.

"It was really Netflix's idea to have her and have a different host than Nick and Vanessa Lachey, who will be back for the next season of Marry or Move On," he said. "I think was a good idea to have a different person."

Coelen also went on to discuss why Swisher, a straight woman, had been picked to host a queer dating show as well as addressing comments on diversity and representation.

"I think one of the one of the big takeaways for me about this, or any of these shows that we do, is that we're all human beings," he said.

"I don’t think that you have to be completely aligned, identity-wise with someone, to be able to empathise with them."

"For people who feel like, 'Oh, I'm a straight person, I might not relate to the stories on this show,' they are wildly mistaken," he added.

"I'm a straight person — I don’t think that has anything to do with being able to tell the story. At the end of the day, I'm dedicated to telling the story and understanding the people whose stories that we're telling.

"I put Joanna in that category as well."
