UNC basketball has the top-rated recruiting class in 2024, but numerous rumors have been circulating over the last week about one of the five-star commits.

Top-five prospect Ian Jackson has been a hot topic of conversation since Rick Pitino became the new head coach at St. John’s.

The rumors about Jackson, from Cardinal Hayes (NY) High School, are of a possible decommitment from North Carolina and decision to join the Red Storm and Pitino.

On Friday, he shut that down and discussed his future in more detail.

Jackson, who has the option to reclassify and join the 2023 class, came out and says ‘reclassifying is not the plan’ right now.

“As of right now reclassifying is not the plan,” Jackson told 247Sports. “The plan is to have one more year at Cardinal Hayes. … In my senior year my main thing is just seeing how much I can grow before college. I want to improve the small little things, grow as a player, grow mentally and dominate defensively.”

For now, it appears Jackson will stay in the 2024 class for North Carolina, as well as staying true to his commitment to the Tar Heels.

If he were to join the 2023 class, he would join a two-man class that includes four-star guard Simon Wilcher and four-star forward Zayden High.
