North Carolina basketball’s Dontrez Styles is the latest Tar Heel to enter the transfer portal.

After playing sparingly in two seasons, Styles entered the portal on Friday, joining senior forward Justin McKoy and freshman wing Tyler Nickel.

The 6-foot-6 Kinston native is best known for his contributions during UNC’s first two games of its run to the 2022 Final Four. Styles averaged 7.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in 19.5 minutes against Marquette and Baylor in March Madness, draining a corner 3 in overtime against the Bears that helped the Tar Heels survive a late rally.

But after appearing in 30 games as a freshman, Styles played in  15 games as a sophomore. He averaged 1.4 points per game in 5.8 minutes over two seasons. The Tar Heels finished the season with a 20-13 record, missed the NCAA Tournament and decided to not play in the NIT.

Styles arrived at UNC as a four-star recruit and the second-ranked in-state player in his class, according to 247Sports.
