UNC Charlotte is short on housing this upcoming semester for 440 students
Thousands of students will return to UNC Charlotte in August for the fall semester.
However, university officials told our partners at The Charlotte Observer that more than 400 students don’t know where they’ll be living.
A university spokesperson said more students who applied for housing decided to stick with it than the school anticipated.
Officials hope to have university-run housing either on or off campus for 440 students.

An email that went out Thursday to the affected students said the university is working to get them housing.
UNC Charlotte officials anticipate they will eventually get housing assigned, but they are as of now, “We just don’t have it for you yet.”

UNC Charlotte has about 6,000 beds and about 8,000 students applied for housing.
More than 1,500 found other housing options or dropped out of the process.
The university has extended its deadline for canceling housing contracts with no penalty until July 29.
