UNC Pembroke and Fayetteville Academy announce joint enrollment collaboration

PEMBROKE — UNC Pembroke has signed a partnership with Fayetteville Academy to offer joint enrollment collaboration, a UNC Pembroke release announced.

Leaders from both institutions signed an agreement establishing the joint enrollment partnership on July 22. The initiative will offer students access to select college courses at one of the top college prep schools in the state and with the goal of inspiring more students to pursue a postsecondary education, the release said. Enrollment for eligible students begins this fall.

“We are excited about the opportunity to partner with UNC Pembroke,” Blair Fisher, head of school at Fayetteville Academy, said in the release. “One hundred percent of our students go on to college, so to have the opportunity to partner with a university in the UNC System will give them a leg up, hopefully help to keep them in North Carolina and give them an advantage heading into their college years.”

UNC Pembroke has offered high school students dual enrollment course opportunities for more than 20 years, the release said. This new enrollment program is designed to find students who have excelled academically and are prepared for the heavier workload that college courses provide, UNC Pembroke said.

“By bridging the gap between high school and higher education, we open doors to new possibilities and prepare students to shape a bright future,” said Chancellor Robin Gary Cummings of UNC Pembroke.

Students may register for no more than one course per semester while completing their high school curriculum, according to the agreement. According to UNC Pembroke, permission must be granted by the student’s high school principal or school counselor and Jamee Freeman, director of undergraduate admissions.

Students who enroll will also benefit from the N.C. Promise Tuition plan which provides $500 for in-state residents and $2,500 for out-of-state students, the release said. Students in the program can also acquire a UNCP student ID to use academic and recreational facilities, campus life, and educational support offerings.
