UNC women's basketball a No. 6 seed in March Madness NCAA Tournament

UNC women's basketball earned a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament and will face the winner of a First Four game between Purdue and St. John's in the first round Saturday in Columbus, Ohio, in the Seattle Regional 3.

The Tar Heels (21-10) finished the regular season ranked 19th. They had been projected by many to host first- and second-round games at Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill for the first time since 2015 as a top-four seed, but when the selections were announced Sunday on ESPN, the Tar Heels were two spots shy of hosting.

UNC has six wins over NET Top 25 teams, and it made a Sweet 16 run last season by eliminating Arizona on the Wildcats' home court and then becoming the only team to lose to eventual champion South Carolina by single figures.

Junior guard Deja Kelly is the Tar Heels' leading scorer, averaging 16.2 points per game. Kennedy Todd-Williams is next at 13.3 points and then comes Alyssa Ustby at 13.1 points and a team-high 8.5 rebounds.

The Tar Heels are in the Seattle bracket, which means they'd play Sweet 16 and Elite Eight games there.
