Uncasville man charged in abuse of infant locked up again

Oct. 26—A judge in New London on Thursday increased bond for a 35-year-old Uncasville man charged with felony assault of his son.

Shane Siegrist of 19 Crescent St., who has pleaded not guilty to charges linked to the life-threatening injuries suffered by his 5-week-old son, violated conditions of his release by having contact with minors and testing positive for cocaine, Assistant State's Attorney Sarah Bowman said.

New London Superior Court Judge John Newson, who raised Siegrist's bond by $300,000, to $650,000, revealed on Thursday that Siegrist is additionally under investigation by New Hampshire authorities for the sexual assault of a minor.

Siegrist, who had previously posted bond and was granted permission by the probation department to travel out of state, was handcuffed and led from the courtroom. He is required to appear in court if he plans to post bond, Newson said.

Siegrist's original arrest stems from an investigation by Montville police in 2022 into injuries sustained by an infant under his care. Police said that in addition to bruises on various parts of his body, the child in Siegrist's care sustained injuries that included bleeding between the skull and the brain and retinal hemorrhages in both eyes.

Siegrist is charged with first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, risk of injury to a child and intentional cruelty to persons.
