- Strangers making sure to honor the lives of Colorado veterans whose remains went unclaimed. This Memorial Day weekend, 19 US military service members will be laid to rest in an honors burial ceremony. The Vietnam Veterans of America Local Chapter 1071, started these honors burials back in 2014. Now, this group discovered hundreds of unclaimed remains in mortuaries all throughout our state. In the ceremony this month, the veterans who served in both world wars-- The Korean War and Vietnam War-- will be laid to rest.
JIM TOPKOFF: We just felt all along that it was our duty and responsibility to take care of all veterans from all wars. We definitely feel they're entitled to the burial that they signed up for.
- The Honors Burial is Saturday, May 29th, 10:00 AM, at Fairmount Cemetery. To find out more about these ceremonies and how you could help, just watch our full interview on CBSN Denver. Watch for free any time on the CBSN Denver app.
