The efforts of the group Listen to Michigan risk putting a former president who called for a Muslim ban back in office. Is that what you want? If Trump is in office, he would not demand an immediate cease-fire in Gaza. Trump and the Republicans don’t care about the Palestinian community. His animosity toward U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib is well known. Most of the right-wing hate directed toward Muslim Americans come from MAGA white nationalists. He doesn’t seem to care about the suffering of others.

Voting in this primary felt like going through the motions

I am normally an enthusiastic voter. Tuesday, however, felt like going through the motions. Here’s to better and more candidates to choose from next time, and every time after that. Michigan’s presidential primary is early this year. That should mean fewer names on the ballot with suspended campaigns.

Trump will be worse for America

I understand the ire at President Joe Biden for his support for Israel’s war in Gaza, where nearly 30,000 Palestinians have been killed. I hope voters who are thinking of voting for someone else other than Biden in the November election remember that such an action makes it more likely that Trump will be elected.

Trump has shown that he is much more biased in favor of Israel than Biden, much less supportive of the rights of Palestinians. In fact, all Democratic presidents, including Biden, have advanced the cause of Palestinians much more than their Republican counterparts.

Furthermore, in every other area, Biden is the difference between humane policies and democracy, versus the repressive policies and authoritarianism of Trump and Republicans: democracy, women’s reproductive health care, health care for all, immigration, LGBTQ+ rights, equal opportunities for all and fair taxation.

If voters let their views on the war in Gaza, on the current immigration crisis, or Biden’s age enable a restoration of Trump, our country will be irreversibly changed for the worse.

Republican voters forgot who Donald Trump was

Donald Trump won the Republican primary election in Michigan. To me, this means Donald Trump has enough Republican voters in Michigan to overlook all his faults and vote for him again. Perhaps Republicans don't remember how he tried to steal the 2020 election and how he tried to intimate the Georgia officials to swing the state of Georgia.

Perhaps the Republican voters forgot how instead of assisting President Joe Biden after Trump lost the election, he incited a march to the Capitol where his "loyal American followers" ransacked the building and tried to prevent Biden's official certification as president.

Instead of uncommitted, the vote should've been Haley

As a proud U.S Marine Corps veteran and Arab-American, I am compelled to share my perspective on the Michigan primary.

First, it should be stated I share disappointment with the Biden Administration's response to the war in Gaza. The approach has left many of us feeling disillusioned and disheartened.

However, if you abstained or voted “uncommitted” in the Democratic primary, you only benefited Donald Trump.

President Joe Biden will still emerge as the Democratic candidate in the general election. The alternative should have been to ignore Biden and vote for former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley in the Republican Primary.

Democrats should've sent a message that transcends party lines, and emphasizes the need for leaders who respect democracy and decency.
