UND awarded biomedical research funding

Apr. 6—GRAND FORKS — UND has been awarded a grant of nearly $250,000 for biomedical research from the National Science Foundation.

The grant was announced in a release from the office of Sen. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D. The funds will be used to develop "stimuli-responsive, biocompatible and biodegradable polymers" that can be used in biological and medical fields.

The research will be conducted by Binglin Sui, an assistant chemistry professor, along with his students. According to the NSF grant extract, Sui is proposing to address the challenges that prevent materials with nanoscale sizes from being used in biomedical applications.
