Site work is underway. This Italian restaurant & brewery is about to go up in Perry
More than a year and a half since it was announced that an Amici Italian Cafe & Brewery was coming to Perry, construction is closer to starting.
Trees were coming down Friday as workers for Eastman-based general contractors Graham & Studstill started clearing the land for the build.
“It’s going to be a nice little pizza place,” said project manager Blake Studstill.
The restaurant is being built about 100 feet off the roadway in a vacant wooded area near Perry Parkway and Washington Place. Workers started clearing the land Monday, Studstil said.
Amici is known their signature pizza, hot wings and cold brews. Most have bars but only a few have breweries. Plans for the coming Perry location include a brewery, a first for the city.
Amici has more than a dozen locations in Georgia and South Carolina — including one in Macon and another in Milledgeville. The first location opened in Madison in 1993.
In December 2021, the city announced in an economic brief that the restaurant and brewery were coming, with hopes of franchisees opening by the end 2022, according to the brief.
Site clearing is part of the groundwork to prepare the site for the start of construction.
