Unemployment continues to drop in Lubbock compared to 2021

A report from the Texas Workforce Commission showed the lowest adjusted unemployment rates since February 2020 at 4%, a slight decrease from June 2022's numbers.

Lubbock's unemployment rate is even lower at 3.8% in the July report, which matches the June numbers. This is still a drop from July 2021's 4.9%.

"Since January of this year, Texas has added 406,800 jobs, the most growth we’ve recorded during that timeframe in any year," said TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel. "This also marks the ninth consecutive month we have set employment records in Texas."

Lubbock reported 162,317 employed civilians and 6,366 unemployed for July. This is a 1.1% change from July 2021, which had 155,797 employed and 7,988 unemployed.

The non-farm industries with the biggest changes for the region in July were financial activities with 1.2% increase, education and health services, and leisure and hospitality at 0.9%.

Three industries reported a decrease of employees: mining, logging and construction; government; and other services.

Government claimed 33,000 employees, the most in the non-farm industries, for July. This is a 1.2% drop from June.

Information and manufacturing industries reported no increase or decrease between July and June. The information industry, reporting 1,800 employees, has not seen any percentage change compared to July 2021.
