UNH stages late rally to win opener, 31-21, over Monmouth

Sep. 2—Dylan Laube's second touchdown of the game, a 7-yard run with 6:20 to play, gave the University of New Hampshire the lead Thursday night as the Wildcats clawed their way to a 31-21 win over Monmouth in the Colonial Athletic Association football opener at Wildcat Stadium in Durham.

Randall Harris's 24-yard interception return for a touchdown with 4:02 to play sealed the win.

Monmouth scored first on an Owen Wright 5-yard run in the first quarter. The Wildcats got even on Laube's first TD a 19-yard run, and took the lead early in the second on Charles Briscoe III's 35-yard return of a blocked punt for a score. Wright's 2-yard rush tied the game, but UNH went into halftime with a 17-14 lead on Nick Mazzie's 28-yard field goal at the end of the half.

Monmouth quarterback Tony Muskett connected with Alex Bryant for 19 yards to give Monmouth the lead in the third quarter before UNH pulled off its fourth-quarter heroics.

UNH quarterback Max Brosmer went 18-for-35 passing for 272 yards and an interception. Kyle Lepkowski led the team in receiving with 121 yards on seven catches. Laube led the Wildcats in rushing with 70 yards and two scores on 16 carries.

UNH next takes the field Saturday, Sept. 10 for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Albany.
