‘Unidentified object spotted’ prompting Russia to close airspace over St Petersburg

The reported sighting of an "unidentified object" has led to the closure of airspace over St Petersburg, Russia.

This Flight Radar video shows the tracking of aircraft over the city on the morning of Tuesday, 28 February.

It shows domestic flights bound for St Petersburg turning back around away from the country's second city.

Local officials posted on the city's official Telegram channel that it had halted all flights at Pulkovo Airport until 12pm local time.

Officials did not provide a reason for the suspension, but an unconfirmed report from Baza said an "unidentified object" had been spied.
