Union City 7th grade girls basketball celebrates undefeated season

The Union City 7th grade girls basketball team celebrated their 10-0 season on Tuesday, the first middle school girls basketball team to go undefeated in school history. UNION CITY, MI. - The Union City 7th grade girls basketball team celebrated their undefeated 2023 season on Tuesday night with an awards get together.

Union City finished their weather shortened season at 10-0 overall, with an average margin of victory of over 24 points a contest.

The 7th grade girls basketball tournament was cancelled after the first round due to inclement weather and was not rescheduled. Even though the tournament was not completed the Chargers were awarded the Big 8 conference title after their tremendous season.

The 2023 version of the Union City 7th grade girls basketball team became the first girls team in school history to finish with an undefeated record, pushing the group's record over the past two seasons to 30-0 overall over a two year span, a span that includes tournament wins in three high level tournaments across the state.

Members of the 2023 Union City 7th grade girls basketball team include Sydney Miller, Nala Payne, Emme Eyre, Alaina Fry, Ellyse Flynn, Emily Sander, Jezelle Nagel, Sydney Farnham, and Aubrey Tennyson. The team manager was Brooke Thomas while the team was coached by former Coldwater softball coach Tina Scheidler.

Congratulations to the 2023 7th grade Big 8 conference champions, the Union City Chargers.
