UNION COUNTY, NJ — When the coronavirus hit it put a damper on many party plans. To bring some whimsy back in a socially-distance friendly way, Dakota Rose reinvented herself and started hosting outdoor events in the Scotch Plains area.
Rose, grew up in Westfield and now lives in Colonia, she has worked in the fashion industry for the past 15 years until the coronavirus hit.
"With 15 years of experience I lost my job and the industry is dead right now, so I had to come up with something quickly to have some sort of income," Rose said.
Tapping into her fashion background, Rose came up with a tent idea for outside parties.
"I've always been very creative. I’ve styled a lot of [fashion] shoots and have been in the styling and editorial world for quite some time. I can see something and can visualize how I want it to be," Rose said.
She decided to start creating a mostly Bohemian, Morrocan vibe using tents with lights to offer a certain vibe of romance. In September, when she officially launched Whimsy Rose Outdoors she had several people contact her to set up proposal parties in the Scotch Plains area.
Now her event company is taking off and she is has done a variety of parties including sweet 16, anniversary dinners, kids birthdays, tea parties, and movie nights. Currently, she is offering a set up for Friendsgiving.
With COVID-19, Rose says she is trying to keep the guest count to 20 but could fit up to 30 people.
"I really customize each event based on how they envision the night going, Rose said. "We offer tents, Bistro lights … and also do movie night setups with little tents on big comfy rugs, pillows, a projector screen, popcorn. Whatever they want we can provide."
Since taking the leap of faith to start Whimsy Rose Outdoors. Rose says she is now serving the Union County area and beyond.
"I want to keep pushing the boundaries for myself and taking risks and following this adventure," Rose said. "That’s what Whimsy Rose is about."
