According to authorities, on January 26, 2020, then-17-year-old Massey and two others agreed to rob 42-year-old Alvin Brewer of money. Brewer was a fellow gang member who was about to go to trial for violent crimes.

When Brewer fought back during the attack, officials say Massey shot Brewer three times and fled.

Authorities say Brewer was found in the 2100 block of Commerce Drive in Monroe and taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The two others involved, Elijah “Speedy” Bennett and Jakaiy Hammonds, were both arrested and are currently spending time in prison, according to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction’s website.
