Unionists sing anti-fascist song at Italy's Meloni
STORY: Meloni was speaking during a convention of the three Italian main unions, CGIL, CISL, and UIL in Rimini when some unionists sang the song and left the hall with their fists raised.
"Bella Ciao" (Goodbye Beautiful) is an anti-fascist resistance song and was used by the Italian partisans during the Italian Civil War between 1943 and 1945 in their struggle against the fascist Italian Social Republic and its Nazi German allies.
The song is used as an anti-fascist hymn of freedom and resistance.
Meloni's conservative party, the Brothers of Italy, traces its roots back to a post-fascist movement created at the end of World War Two by supporters of former dictator Benito Mussolini.
In 2021, members of the Forza Nuova neo-fascist group broke into CGIL's headquarters in Rome and turned the office upside down.
