(WJW) – With Valentine’s Day approaching quickly, you’re probably beginning to think about what to get that special someone for the special day. Well, you’ve come to the right place!

Showing your love with classic chocolate and candy is always a good choice.

Fox 8 has compiled a list of local candy shops that make their own unique candies.

Brandt’s Candies: Willoughby

Brandt’s Candies in Willoughby is family-owned and operated and has been making hand-dipped chocolates since 1948.

According to the Brandt’s Candies website, the shop makes all of its candy and ingredients in small batches, using only the “finest ingredients.”

Chocolate Emporium: South Euclid

Chocolate Emporium is a Cleveland-based chocolate shop that has specialized in dairy-free, gluten-free, vegan, and Star-K-certified kosher dark chocolates since 1993.

Differently Delicious: Cleveland

Differently Delicious is a candy store that specializes in freeze-dried candy and provinces fun work for adults with developmental disabilities.

According to the Differently Delicious website, currently, over 10 people with special needs are employed by Differently Delicious to provide them with the opportunity to work a job that is meaningful and pays well.

Fantasy Candies Chocolate Factory and Fine Wines: Lyndhurst

The Fantasy Candies Chocolate Factory was started in 1989 in Cleveland and specializes in Swiss chocolates. In 2006, Chocolate Expert and Owner Joel Fink created SweetDreams 72, a 72% hi-cocoa chocolate.

Malley’s Chocolates: Several locations in NE Ohio

Malley’s Chocolates was started in 1935, during the Great Depression with a second storefront opening in 1949 in Lakewood.

According to the Malley’s Chocolates website, the second location was known for being the first all-aluminum retail store in America.

The Lakewood store was remodeled in 1994 and still thrives to this day. There are 19 Malley’s Chocolate Shoppes and Ice Cream Parlors across the region with a five-acre, 60,000 sq. ft. headquarters on Brookpark Rd. in southwest Cleveland.

Mitchell’s Fine Chocolates: Cleveland Heights

Mitchell’s Fine Chocolates has specialized in dark chocolate-covered homemade marshmallows, caramels and truffles for over 83 years, according to it’s website.

Mitchell’s Fine Chocolates started in Cleveland Heights and was founded by Greek immigrant Christ Michell and his wife, Penelope.

Sweet Bean: Cleveland

Sweet Bean is a local chocolate and coffee bean shop owned and operated by husband and wife Bob and Kristin Barnes.

Known for their beautifully painted “(Almost) too pretty to eat chocolates,” Sweet Bean is located in Cleveland and sells some of the prettiest chocolates in town.

Sweet Designs Chocolatier: Lakewood

Master Chocolatier and Owner Ines Rehner opened Sweet Designs Chocolatier in a small corner store on Madison Avenue in Lakewood in December of 1995.

Sweet Designs now offers over 80 different chocolates, from truffles and hand-dipped fruit to nut clusters and caramels.

According to the Sweet Designs website, their chocolates have even been enjoyed by NASA astronauts on the Space Shuttle.

Twisted Sweets: Middleburg Heights

Twisted Sweets is owned and operated by Christine Czech, known by many as “The Chocolate Lady” or “The Chocolate Girl.”

She sells home-produced, handmade chocolates from businesses in Northeast Ohio.

According to the candy company’s website, a new Twisted Sweets storefront is now open at 7551 Pearl Road in Middleburg Heights.
