Animal lovers from different areas gathered at the New Stanton Volunteer Fire Department and brought snakes, tortoises, ferrets, rats, ducks and other non-traditional pets with them.

People like Mike who owns MCG reptiles brought animals native to different continents, including a banana bumblebee ball python, which is originally from Africa.

Not all animals were for sale though. A private rescuer from Dooker’s Retreat brought ferrets with her. She said she will bring the animals into her home and provides for them in a room dedicated just to ferrets. The retreat is stationed in Derry. Ferret owners who need to leave their pets with a trusted owner while they are away can also leave their animals at Dooker’s Retreat.

Jen Morris was one of the people in attendance. Her passion for animals started when she was a child and has motivated her to keep coming to similar events ever since.

“On my 15th birthday ten ducks needed to be rescued and I felt implored to do that because my mother raised me to go for the animals that need help,” said Morris.

The event ran from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
