United Airlines flights resume after technical issue forces ground stop

A systemwide technology issue forced a ground stop for United Airlines flights Tuesday afternoon across the nation before resuming operations soon after.

Newark Liberty International Airport was among the affected airports.

"United Airlines is currently experiencing network issues that may delay some arrivals," the airport tweeted at 1:44 p.m. "Please contact United Airlines for updated flight schedules."

Federal officials said that United crews had been unable to contact airline dispatchers through normal means.

“United asked the FAA to pause the airline’s departures nationwide,” the Federal Aviation Administration said on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter.

The FAA said the issue was limited to United and its subsidiaries. It announced before 2 p.m. Eastern time that the ground stop on United flights had been lifted.

Tuesday travelers should check on their United flights with the airline for any additional updates.
