United High School celebrates Class of 2022
United High School celebrated commencement on Sunday, May 29, 2022, at United's Football Stadium. Guest speaker was Dr. Rachael Blasiman.
Valedictorians
No. 1 Emily Renee McKarns of Hanoverton, daughter of John and Shari McKarns, plans to attend Ohio Northern University to study pharmacy. She had a 4.0 grade-point average, was in National Honor Society; tennis; Art in Motion Dance Academy competition team; band and majorette; was vice president of Franklin Jr. 4-Hrs 4-H Club; Columbiana County Saddle Horse ambassador; and was a Buckeye Girls State delegate.
No. 1 Sydney Mae Young of Salem, daughter of Tom and Connie Young, plans to study nursing at Ohio State University. She had a 4.0 GPA, and was president of National Honor Society; Class of 2022 vice president; varsity soccer captain; varsity cheerleading captain; and on varsity track.
Salutatorian
No. 3 Trevor David McCormack of Salem, son of Jen Lease, plans to study computer science at Kent State University. He had a 3.957 GPA, and was in golf and Spanish Club.

No. 4 Caleb Joshua Blake of Salem, son of Steven and Jami Blake, plans to double major in political science and economics at Ohio State. He had a 3.906 GPA, and was in Spanish Club, Academic Challenge, played soccer, was in National Honor Society and was a Buckeye Boy’s State delegate.
No. 5 Cody Ray Cope of Summitville, son of Ray and Amie Cope, plans to study veterinary medicine at Ohio State. He had a 3.905 GPA, played football and basketball, and was in FFA and 4-H.
No. 6 Joshua James Scott of Winona, son of Tom and Michelle Scott, has enlisted in the Ohio Army National Guard and plans to study nursing at Kent State University. He had a 3.871 GPA, ran track, was in Ruriteens and was a volunteer firefighter for Winona Fire Department,
No. 7 Allison Emily Connor of East Rochester, daughter of Curt and Heather Connor, plans to study interior design and architecture at Columbus College of Art and Design. She had a 3.818 GPA, and played girls soccer, boys tennis and was in Student Council.
No. 8 Jade Lynn Watt of Salem, daughter of David and Jennifer Watt, plans to study early childhood education at Youngstown State University. She had a 3.814 GPA, and was in varsity cheerleading, varsity track and cross country, was senior class vice president, vice president of National Honor Society and a dancer at TGS Gymnastics and Dance Studio.
No. 9 Tori Nicole Tschappatt of Salem, daughter of Tom and Traci Tschappatt, is undecided on college or a major. She had a 3.795 GPA, and was in American Sign Language Club, played volleyball and was a church volunteer.
No. 10 Madison Bailey Painter of Salem, daughter of Mike and Mary Painter, plans to major in visual arts at Youngstown State University. She had a 3.790 GPA, and was in Art Club, American Sign Language Club, Academic Challenge and Jazz Band.
