United Way hosting virtual reading in honor of MLK Day
United Way of the Eastern Upper Peninsula’s Retired and Senior Volunteer Program invites the Eastern Upper Peninsula to come together to honor Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy of community service with a virtual reading.
Throughout his life, King stressed the importance of serving your community but also noted that service doesn’t have to be physical. The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is starting a conversation on the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion in rural communities throughout the Eastern Upper Peninsula. This reading will be done by one of the AmeriCorps Seniors Retired and Senior Volunteer Program volunteers. Eastern Upper Peninsula residents are invited to join a virtual reading of “Change Sings: A Children’s Anthem” by Amanda Gorman.
Although the book is targeted to children, the United Way encourage anyone to join in on the conversation at 10 a.m. on Monday. Follow United Way of the Eastern Upper Peninsula on Facebook for updates and information. If you’d like to join, the virtual reading can be accessed at bit.ly/EUP-MLK.
