United Way project request hotline opens today

Feb. 5—A hotline to request small critical home repair projects in western Crawford County opens today and will continue accepting applications until March 1.

The Community Improvement Center of United Way of Western Crawford County is seeking applications in advance of the annual spring Service Saturday event that will take place April 6.

Each spring, volunteers come together to complete small construction and general yard maintenance projects for low-income and senior residents of the area. These projects typically include porch or step repair, accessibility ramps, yard cleanup and similar tasks.

To be considered for a project, call (814) 337-1251 on weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The Community Improvement Center committee encourages residents to call as soon as possible. Requests received prior to Feb. 16 will be reviewed with priority.

In announcing the hotline, organizers stressed that submitting an application does not guarantee the project will be accepted. Volunteers will visit work sites to assess the safety and the scope of potential projects.
