UNITED24 reports problems of Ukrainian users with two-factor Twitter authentication, gets shadow ban

UNITED24, a state-owned Ukrainian media, reported it is no longer possible to add a Ukrainian mobile number in Twitter on Dec. 13, and the day after, UNITED24 found itself in a shadow ban.

“Hey Elon Musk, it seems like it's no longer possible to have a Ukrainian number verify a Twitter account/two-factor authentication. Ukraine is not in your list of countries (…) It’s vital for us to keep showing the world what’s going on in our country,” the post said.

The Twitter account of the Ukrainian media was not officially blocked, according to AIN.UA. However, many users are reporting that they can’t find it when they search Twitter. Also, replies to tweets in its feed may not be visible to the account.

Moreover, the UNITED24 Twitter account can’t be searched for if you are not already a follower – it can only be accessed with a direct link.

It is unclear yet whether this is related to the recent publication about the problems of Ukrainian users.

It was previously reported that Ukrainian Twitter users began to report problems with two-factor authentication – they stopped receiving SMS codes.

Twitter has removed the phone code of Ukraine from its databases.
