Unitil plans career fair to recruit vets

HAMPTON — Unitil Corporation, (Unitil.com), a provider of natural gas and electricity to customers in New England, is reaching out to veterans interested in exploring potential job opportunities with the company by hosting its 2nd Annual Veterans Day Career Fair on Nov. 10.

The event is open to the public and will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Unitil’s Seacoast operations facility at 30 Energy Way in Exeter, N.H.

This is a unique opportunity for veterans to meet with company representatives to discuss options for employment in the utilities industry.

“Based on our experience, veterans have a track record of possessing the four central values that are key to our organization: Respect, Integrity, Stewardship and Excellence,” said Unitil Media Relations Manager Alec O’Meara. “We recognize the value veterans bring to the workplace, but have found that connecting with transitioning service members and veterans seeking employment is oftentimes a challenge. Because they’re in high demand and these values are ingrained in them, Unitil has made dedicated efforts to find and hire veterans.”

Unitil held its first career fair targeting veterans last year and hopes to see an even greater turnout this year as the company is hiring for positions in a number of areas, including utility lineworkers, software developers, engineers, gas service workers, and meter technicians.

The company has been working to expand its diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, which involve recruiting from a diverse talent pool that includes veterans and hosting a career fair. “We believe we’re a stronger company when all voices and perspectives are represented,” O’Meara said.

Recently named one of Business NH Magazine’s “Best Companies to Work For,” Unitil offers flexible work schedules; competitive 401k match and additional company contribution; generous HSA contributions; educational assistance and paid training; paid vacations, holidays, parental leave and company paid short-term and long-term disability; and value added benefits, including adoption assistance, employee discount programs, and home and auto insurance.More information on career opportunities at Unitil can be found at https://unitil.com/our-company/careers.

Terracea kicks off the winter season

SOMERSWORTH — The Falls Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday to kick off the winter season for Terracea.

Terracea is a ski clothing company that sells technical ski/snow/elemental outerwear, thoughtfully designed for balance and functionality. The company was born from the idea that winter gear should be exceptional on the slopes – yet still be functional enough to keep up as you move through any type of adventure. Whether that be a winter summit push or an icy New England commute, they believe that your jacket should work as hard as you do instead of being reserved for a single occasion.

Headquartered in Somersworth, they sit a stone’s throw away from both the mountains and a countless number of the lakes, rivers, and beaches that dot our state. Somersworth is the ideal location for Terracea and has inspired them to truly be with the elements – not just physically, but as their core philosophy as a company. It drives the way they design their products and shapes their ethics towards people and the planet. Terracea isn't about battling the elements, but being prepared and excited to experience them throughout all seasons.

Terracea owner Eric Hui kicked off the ceremony by thanking chamber representatives for being a part of their kick off and move to New Hampshire saying, “we moved our location to New Hampshire three years ago to represent the outdoors. Since our start we have changed as a company to reflect the four seasons as an outdoor brand, making products like lightweight insulated jackets with great utility.” Eric also added that they use eco-friendly materials for all their clothing products, including recycled down.

To celebrate the start of the winter season, 100% of all purchases made at the event will be donated to One Warm Coat (https://www.onewarmcoat.org/). To learn more about Terracea, visit https://terracea.com/ or email info@terracea.com.

Eastern Propane and Oil donates to Veterans Count

ROCHESTER — As we prepare to show our respect and appreciation for all who have served this great nation on Nov. 11, Eastern Propane and Oil donated $29,422.59 to Veterans Count. This donation is the result of Eastern’s donation of one penny for every gallon of propane that was delivered by its five Veterans Count branded delivery trucks during their last fiscal year.

“As we celebrate 90 years in business, we also reflect on the support we are able to offer the communities that we serve,” said Chuck Clement IV, Chief Technology Officer at Eastern Propane and Oil. “Our penny-per-gallon program supporting Veterans Count is a program Eastern is extremely proud of. The work that Veterans Count does to not only support veterans, but also their families is truly extraordinary. We would not be able to make this donation without the support and loyalty of our customers, many of which are veterans themselves, and for that we are truly grateful.”

“Roughly ten percent of Eastern Propane and Oil’s workforce are U.S. veterans. They’re making deliveries on the road with pride, and we can see why,” said Pamela Hawkes, Chief Development Officer for Easterseals N.H., Vt. and Farnum. “They work for a company committed to serving New Hampshire service members, veterans, and their families on every level. Easterseals NH Veterans Count is grateful for Eastern Propane and Oil’s generous support.”
