Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Valerii Zaluzhnyi congratulated all Ukrainians on Unity Day in a Jan. 22 Telegram post, noting that the frontline is the today’s Chain of Unity.

"Ukrainian soldiers, sailors, sergeants, and officers — you know the price of every inch of Ukrainian land better than anyone else," Zaluzhnyi said.

“It is the Ukrainian warrior who fights today so that Ukraine can be united and independent.”

Thousands of Ukrainians created the human Chain of Unity in 1990, uniting the country from west to east and expressing their desire for freedom. Today the Chain of Unity is the frontline, where thousands of Ukrainian soldiers stand together, united, in the battle for Ukraine’s independence and freedom, Zaluzhnyi said.

"We know that the whole of Ukraine is fighting alongside our soldiers,” he said.

“Our unity is our weapon. Together — to Victory.”

Ukraine celebrates Unity Day on Jan 22. On this day, in 1919, the Unification Act of the Ukrainian People's Republic (UPR) and the West Ukrainian People's Republic (WUPR) united Ukraine as a single state.
