Universal sets opening date, pricing for escape rooms

Universal Orlando will open its escape rooms based on the “Back to the Future” and “Jurassic World” film franchises on Dec. 9, the resort announced Thursday. Their admission prices were also revealed for the first time.

Universal’s Great Movie Escape is located on the upper level of Universal CityWalk. Its space was formerly the Groove nightclub.

More details about the two experiences were shared Thursday. The plot of Jurassic World: Escape will involve geneticists in a lab on Isla Nublar, genetic codes and an apex predator on the prowl. Back to the Future: OUTATIME features Biff, circa 1993, who has stolen Doc Brown’s latest time-travel device. Participants will be asked to solve clues that will save the past and future.

The puzzles and escape paths from the rooms are randomized as can be adjusted for skill levels and party sizes, Universal said.

Great Movie Escape tickets start at $49.99 per person per room; Universal said pricing varies depending on time and date of visit. The highest price posted on Universal’s site for the next three months is $64.99 per person.

An experience includes up to six people per group and may include multiple parties, according to a news release from Universal Orlando.

There’s also a private experience option for parties for up to eight people. Those start at $300 per group for either the Jurassic or Future spaces. The most expensive group price currently posted through February is $390.

Universal’s site suggests that guests plan on spending 90 minutes on the escape-room experience. A ticket purchased in advance comes with complimentary self-parking for one vehicle in the Universal Orlando garage.
