A Universal Studios theme park is coming to Texas. Here's what we know

A Universal Studios theme park will soon be within driving distance of Austin, the Dallas Morning News reported Wednesday morning.

While an opening date is not yet available, here's what we know so far:

What are the details of the sale?

Universal Parks & Resorts purchased the land back in December under a Delaware shell company, according to county records obtained by the Dallas Morning News. Frisco leaders also spent months working out details with the theme park giant.

The theme park will cater to families, according to the Dallas Morning News, while Bloomberg added the new development will place emphasis on younger children.

How big will the park be?

The Dallas Morning News reported Universal Parks & Resorts purchased nearly 100 acres in the Fields development on the Dallas North Tollway. It's a smaller area than Universal Studios' current U.S. theme parks in Florida and California, which span 541 acres and 400 acres, respectively. Universal Studios Japan and Universal Studios Beijing both measure 130 acres, while Universal Studios Singapore spans only 49 acres.

What attractions should we expect?

Specific attractions, such as the rollercoasters and 3D experiences its current parks are known for, are currently a mystery. However, Mark Woodbury, Universal Parks & Resorts chairman and CEO, told the Dallas Morning News that the park will be a one- to two-day experience with a 300-room hotel. Bloomberg reported the theme park will have shows and character meet and greets.
